LeClaire, Iowa ~ Until ‘American Pickers’ I’m not sure that I ever thought much about it or even knew where it was…But now there’s a new kid on the block…
In 2010, brothers Ryan and Garrett Burchett decided to take a chance on a crazy idea…creating a Spirit that was homegrown and handmade. (A micro-distillery…a new word for me) With lots of hard work their dream came true and their ‘first born’, River Baron Vodka, was bottled on December 15, 19 & 21 to coincide with their Grand Opening on December 17, 2010.
Just what makes these spirits so special? It’s how they start, from the finest locally raised grains. All (100%) of the grain comes from within 25 miles of the distillery and is purchased directly from the farmer. There is a real relationship with the farmers who raise the grain. Nice concept! The entire process ‘from grain to glass’ is done on site at the distillery. Each bottle that leaves the Mississippi River Distilling Company bears the unique stamp of handcrafted approval and is individually numbered to show the batch and bottle number. What is really interesting that you can check the ‘personality’ of your bottle with corresponding batch notes. :)
Take notice of the beautiful STILL ~ it was handmade in Germany and doesn’t look like pictures of stills I have seen.
I found a portion of the website that says alot about the Mississippi River Distilling Company and would like to share it…
We’re a family owned and operated company. We believe in stewardship of our land and water. We know that the family farm is an important part of our community and our culture here. And we believe in quality above all else. We hope you’ll appreciate the hard work that each hand signed bottle represents. We hope you’ll share some with your friends, then come to LeClaire and say hello so we can show you what makes us so proud about the wonderful place we call home.
