Allamakee Wood-Fired Pottery

When you love what you do…you do it with your heart and soul!

Looking at the Allamakee Wood-Fired Pottery website, that comes through!  The creations are Awesome…but Nate & Hallie Evans have very labor intensive work to bring it to fruition.

The Evans are a husband and wife team that has been making wood-fired pottery for more than 10 years.  They built their kilns ~ from reclaimed and recycled bricks from a former kiln ~ themselves.  The original kiln was built over the course of a couple months in the summer of 2000.   The new smaller kiln was completed in May of 2004.   The large kiln is fired only 5 times a year…but, it take 600-700 pieces to fill it and it takes 4 days to complete a firing.  That is a lot of ‘fire stoking’!

The pottery made is not only functional, it’s also something that could be used in anyone’s home. Take the time to browse the website or stop in at one of the local shops.   If you have little ones in your life take a look at their line of Kids Pottery…sturdy functional and fun!
